August 12, 2014 – Did You Know These Celebrities Lived in a Mobile Home?

What do Matthew McConaughey, Minnie Driver, and Pamela Anderson have in common? They were all residents at one time of a high-end Malibu trailer park, Paradise Cove. The mobile home community, which was developed in the 1960s as a beach rental vacation spot, is known as a trendy neighborhood and was once the subject of a Vanity Fair article. According to The Wall Street Journal, it seems more and more wealthy people are turning to high-end mobile homes, on the West Coast and other parts of the U.S.: “Industry executives attribute the change both to downsizing retirees and skyrocketing real-estate prices in certain areas, which are prompting more people to consider trailer park living as a (relatively) affordable option.”

If you’re unsure about its appeal, trailer park living has its perks, especially in Paradise Cove, where many celebs and others in the “industry” call home. Features include ocean views, direct access to private beaches, a clubhouse, tennis and basketball courts, and a children’s playground. Plus, these homes can be tricked out to include hardwood or tile floors, high-tech appliances, granite countertops, and even more luxury amenities.

But don’t think you’ll be saving that much money by downsizing to a fancy mobile home — trailers in this exclusive community have sold for millions of dollars in the past. The Wall Street Journal reports that a couple purchased a two-bedroom trailer, 1,800-square-foot trailer for $1.25 million last spring, Matthew McConaughey’s old trailer sold for $2.55 million earlier in the year, and last month, a four-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot trailer with a hot tub and two-car garage was listed at $3.75 million.
